Resist The WTO

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! RESISTANCE IS GROWING.

In London the Hillingdon hospital workers - a group of Asian women - have been on strike for over four years, fighting against the privatisation of the NHS, and for a living wage. People like this have been organising from the ground up and forming global alliances with grassroots labour, environmental and social justice groups. One such network with revolutionary potential, is called the Peoples' Global Action (PGA). It is made up of movements and individuals fighting capitalism clear across the planet. Unlike the WTO, it has no leaders no huge expensive bureaucracy, instead it is a network of human relationships across race and nationality, and sharing a common vision of a fairer, greener future.

On June 18th this year, protests took place all over the world in financial centres. The action in London included a carnival of over 13,000 people that brought the City to a standstill. Countless other events took place simultaneously in 43 countries, on every continent. In Port Harcourt, Nigeria, for instance, over 50,000 people took to the streets, in a festival of resistance against western oil companies that are plundering their land.

November 30th 1999 and beyond

The mobilisation in Seattle on and around November 30th is going to be massive. Other events will be happening world-wide, including actions all over the UK. In London, there will be a city wide information action. Get in touch with RTS if you'd like some posters for flyposting. And what happens when the dust has settled after November 30th? It's hard to attack the WTO itself, especially since it doesn't even have an office in the UK. But we can continue to strike at the system it seeks to spread - capitalism - and we can try to build local communal alternatives to put in its place.

No-one doing anything in your area. Do it yourself...
